Well winter is officially here in my corner of the world as well and while I love long, sunny summer days I do enjoy winter just as much. For me summer and winter are my two favourite seasons each with its own magic and since I’m a big fan of snowboarding you can easily guess what my favourite activity is during the cold season.
To be honest I don’t really get people that dream only about retreating to some sun flooded beach during the winter because for me there’s nothing more pleasant and relaxing than spending a weekend with friends in the mountains, snowboarding all day and sipping a cup of hot wine around the fire, in a cozy cabin, at night.
This being said, here are some of the places I would very much enjoy spending my cold winter nights in.
The Rolling Huts in Winthrop, Washington, designed by Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig Architects (whose work was already featured here in two other posts) as a modern alternative to camping:
Hotel Kakslauttanen nestled in the wilderness near Finland’s Urho Kekkonen National Park with one of the Arctic Circle’s best views of the Aurora Borealis:
Montaña Mágica Lodge (or Magic Mountain Lodge) located within Huilo Huilo, a 232 square mile natural reserve in southern Chile:
And my very favourite, the Sugar Bowl Residence designed by John Maniscalco Architecture, with each living space offering stunning mountain views:
